Rocker box oil leaking..
#1
Hiya All...

am getting a bit peed off with replacing the sealant between the rocker box and head on my DW8B..

Now I know it's not a difficult job but cleaning off the oil sealant and prepping for the fresh sealant is time consuming if you want the sealant to have a chance of being effective..

I might try a different sealer so any recommendations for one that works for the long term ? I'm not interested in chucking some silicone sealer on it.  I have tried high temp instant gasket, Reinzosil and my next product will be Dirko.. Any experience with theses ? What do you use ?

After 3/4 times trying to seal it I changed mine for a rocker box with a groove for a proper gasket.

never leaked since.

If you do go the sealant way the surfaces need to be clean clean with brake wash or it will keep failing. Or do what bodfather says ^^^^

I was like ajcommercial tried all different sealers, brake wash and even new rubber rings round the stud holes and to no avail. I think was that the cover itself had a warp in it or the lower cover was warped or porus.
Ended up changing both approx. £30.00 for both IIRC

Have a look at this Renault gasket, Do you recon it will fit the DW8B ? I'm only asking because I have been perusing rocker / cam box porn and have seen a cover with a gasket attached, It could be this one ??

Sealant ....

try putting a small bead on the engine and then letting it firm up, after this lay another bead on top and whilst wet place the cover back on. Give the securing screws a nip up to give the final seal.

I took the cam box off and did the usual clean with brake cleaner...
I have used Dirko Gasket silicone this time, it looks very similar to the first oil leak I did, it is a Grey colour.. I have finished the job and changed the engine oil, the van now will not be started for 18hrs which hopefuly will be enough time for it to set...

I do need to clean the spilt oil off the block so if the Dirko works I will give the block a jet wash..

I need to check the Muti but I have only covered 200 miles since I replaced the sealer so it should be ok...
