New bulbs
#1
Fitted new bulbs to our berlingo yesterday. It's now saying that the bulbs are faulty. Bought them new from Halfords. I got led style bulbs side lights and rear number plates. It looks much better.
Also says the same messages on the onboard vehicle diagnostics. I would have thought with it being a brand new van, The canbus thing wouldn't be an issue.

I seem to recall once having read a thread here concerning LED bulbs and they came up as faulty due to their lower current draw and the computer decided that they were therefore faulty.

Yes you need canbus compatible led's

Or wire a resistor into each bulb circuit.

Because of their lower draw - which is a good thing - the all-powerful and sometimes stupid vehicle 'brain' is seeing a fault when there is none. So putting in more resistance will correct the problem.
Then of course the savings of a lower current draw are lost.

I suspect a cunning plan to drive you to the dealers for a bulb change......

I hate this terminology, there is no canbus of any kind to the rear lights or any for that matter, what there is is a sensing function that measures the resistance of the bulbs using a small amount of current

My pet hate when doing towbars was the use of the word canbus to do with the relay, even the single filament bulbs that do tail and brake lights in day a vectra c use pulse width modulation (a lower voltage to give brightness roughly 5w to make a dimmer light until you press the brake and then the 21w bulb gets a full 12v to make a brighter light

Canbus is a digital signal sent in twisted pairs between computers for sharing information as any computer so programmed can read the information, the much misused term is often present as card with bulb warning systems use canbus, but that’s about where the commonality ends

In answer to 48pop as I can’t quote you buddy, No more than any other car with normal bulbs, the issue here is the different bulbs fitted by a customer, if he’d gone in Halfords and asked for the correct bulbs there would be no issue Wink

Being a brand new van unfortunately you have more crap fitted that is big brother style, so I don’t see how being a brand new van makes this issue better?

Also I’m unsure why you think it would not be an issue??

Your van has more sensors and stuff to go wrong than say a 2006 Berlingo and a 2006 berlingo wouldn’t care if it had leds fitted or not
