What is the alternator charging at? Could be a diode down in the alternator back feeding to earth? Could be a bit of water in the BSI.

From memory on the early lingos the wire goes direct from alt to clocks and they don’t really have a bsi as such in the early ones, a big lump of fuse box, so I’d say probably a regulator issue or as said one of the diodes has blown although that tends to give a dim light rather than a bright as per pre starting brightness

which year is your Berlingo from?
I believe they got the BSI around 2000?
Check voltage after you've revved the engine up to 3K or so.
