Fault code reader
#1
Can I use any fault code reader for a M59 1.9D ? I have bought a D900 off Ebay but it doesn't want to connect to the vehicle.
I know Lexia 3 is the way to go but at £100 notes it seems a little expensive just to read a code or two..
What code reader do you have ?

  Cheers..

Almost any cheap scanner will read generic codes - but these are usually restricted to engine only, and don't cover manufacturer specific codes.

The original purpose of the On Board Diagnostic system was so that uniformity of fault finding would help fix problems with any car.
But manufacturers are adding ever increasing model specific codes, and a dedicated code reader is needed for these - one that will also read transmission, abs, esp, yaw, steering, and other faults.

You pays your money ... etc. Depends how deep you want to go, both with diagnosis and with cash.

I'm looking at the iCarsoft CPII for my B9, but it ain't cheap. Decision pending. I have the same type of dedicated unit for my other car, and it is a fantastic bit of kit. Like you, I'm still investigating for my Citroen.

You will get very little useful engine information from the 1.9 d Berlingo whatever you read it with. Even Lexia is pretty restrictive as the engine is so simple, it has little to monitor.
If that is the on;y engine you will ever use it on & your engine light is showing, you would be better paying someone to read it for you.
My Snap on scanner used to say "no useful information avaliable for this engine code "  Big Grin

I will add to what mark says... the later model with the ecu and air flow meter do have a bit more functionality, but even they are limited as it is such a simple system to get the engine running, tbh I love the 1.9 for its simplicity and a fuel pump fuelling/timing tweak can produce more power to a degree, but that’s only from flat to an acceptable but still not a 1.6hdi pull even though they will be similar power, the torque curve is what makes a turbo engine way ahead, that said the 1.9 is a workhorse and you can put a ton in the back and it will still plod round like a good little van! Mine weighed 2.6tons with updated suspension and brakes and still got me places, albeit slowly, when I used mine for stereo competitions with 6x15” subs and 24kw up them for the finals Smile
