Howdy - just a quick (and very stupid question). Im used to servicing my old 2.0hdi with the 'old fashioned' metal oil filter but my new 2007 1.6 hdi has one of these silly 'vacuum cleaner' type card oil filters. Having gone to fit it, my question is... WHERE IS IT ON THE ENGINE!?!? is it underneath, is it on top? advice greatly appreciated - thanks

Quote:on the 1.6 HDI diesel engine, it's located under a black plastic housing on the right side about half way down. There's a big nut cast into the top of the housing that you undo (carefully) with a socket wrench. You will probably have to remove the top air intake hose to gain access to the housing. Once the housing is removed give the filter a sharp tug to remove it - it's not fixed by anything. Replace with a new filter and sealing washer.

When I first changed mine I really had to pull on the filter to get it out of the housing. When you replace it you need to do the O-ring too on the housing cap (the plastic bit with the hex nut on top). The nipple on the bottom of the filter needs to fit into the recess in the engine. Make sure it is sitting in the recess before tightening. You tighten the cap to 25nm torque.
