RD4 Bluetooth & DAB+
#1
Hi Guys,

Aldi have for sale on Thursday 8th this Bluetooth and Dab+ adapter

https://aldi.co.uk/p/083022197522500

I'm thinking of using this adapter with a lead like this,

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=...0588918943

To give me both Bluetooth music and navigation sound through my rd4 stereo, with the added bonus of dab+ too.

I have enabled aux using diagbox, anyone got any thoughts on this ? Pros and cons I'm interested before I splash the cash.

Not sure what DAB or DAB+ will give you over FM in a car in the UK? DAB is MP2 so no great shakes when it comes to sound quality. Would a phone connected to the lead you linked do the same as far as BlueTooth is concerned?

Its true the lead will give sounds from the phone so I would get music / sat navigation instructions using the lead, I have unlimited data in the UK so I could get the digital stations (in fact virtually any radio station in the world) using the tune in app on my phone.

I've never had dab+ so don't know to much about it but I doubt if I'll hear the difference in quality in a noisy car ?

The Bluetooth connectivity will save wear on the headphone socket on the phone ( a common problem area on smartphones) also some new smartphones no longer have headphone sockets as Bluetooth is becoming the norm due to the wear issues above.

Thanks for the input, Im in two minds , you might be right and the lead could well be sufficient, I change phones every two years or so but never get stupid expensive ones so I may never wear out the headphone socket .

There are some BT to FM transmitters around that might be a better option if you don't want to use the phone. As far as DAB vs DAB+ is concerned, I don't think there's any difference in sound quality other than DAB+ has better interference suppression.

Thanks, I have a FM Bluetooth adapter,, it gives my wife problems with interference when outside the local area , so I was looking for something easier to use, I'm leaning towards just the cable at the moment.

Seems like I'm plugging the "Connects2" unit because I've mentioned it a couple of times previously on here! Once you've got one set up it'll play anything on your phone through your existing Berlingo audio; phone calls, FM or internet radio, Spotify, You-Tube, Pod-Casts, Sat-Nav. Doing it this way avoids any issues with stalk controls, clock setting etc.

Hi Matt,
I like the look of the connects2 unit , just a bit wary of the price as it's over double the price of the dab+ unit.
However if it really works well I would be willing to spend on it.

What's your opinion on call and music sound quality etc ?

Thanks,

Mark

I'm not an audiophile, I'm not in the vinyl sounds better than CD discussion, but to my ear the resulting sound through the Berlingo system is at least as good as the original Berlingo system. Only issues I've had are 1) I've lost a couple of calls when a call came in while I was on FM and had to switch input source in a hurry (my mistake), 2) I find that the various inputs via phone all seem to have different volume levels so have to re-adjust volume using the stalk as I change between calls, sat-nav, music-player etc. but otherwise its worked very well.
