I've just watched this documentary and am more than a little pissed off by some of the conclusions.
It goes without saying that Nox is nasty and should be reduced or eliminated .
One thing was that VW couldn't make their cars comply and had to buy them back, some cars were 500% over allowed levels, the same cars / engines were sold in Europe yet no buy back here.
Also if they can get approval in any EU state that approval is valid EU wide and there was the accusation that member states would give approval in return for manufacturing capacity (jobs) in their country.
PSA weren't mentioned but vw BMW and Merc were.
So in essence we are using dangerously polluting cars with non working pollution crap bolted to it that pushes up the cost of the cars and causes no end of problems we then have to pay to sort out, so that some politicians can say they are doing something about the problem ( that they caused by steering us into diesel with cost reductions)
I'm not saying emission control gear does nothing, just nothing like we had been made to believe.
I love the Berlingo, just as I do my old BMW bike and don't intend to give either up, but very soon I won't be able to go into London in/on either without paying well over £20 "tax" and I don't think I can take the bike through Paris at all with it pre dating the EU emission rules.
Highly recommended viewing available on Netflix and probably every pirate platform !

According to the documentary, these cars were not hitting the target figures in the first place, that's why they were using cheat device in the states and getting approval in a corrupt member state in Europe.
It makes it sound like they the politicians were doing something and to justify the extra costs they were heaping onto the public, we should of been suspicious when the levels to pass a MOT test were nowhere near what it was to get euro approval.
The documentary goes to great lengths to show how harmful Nox is, but really that is a accepted thing, it's the cheating by car manufacturers , governments with vested interests and who is picking up the bill (us) and why it's not the manufacturer and corrupt governments paying for this is the issue which keeps getting conveniently overlooked.
The damage is done, why should the innocent breath this stuff and why should the innocent driver foot the bill to put this right ?
The motorist didn't ask to be lied to by manufacturers and governments any more than innocent people (drivers included ) asked to breath this stuff .

The whole thing is a false construct really. The VW thing was only in the USA. You will notice Ford Kia Hyundai do not sell diesel cars in the US presumably because their diesels for the European market could not meet more stringent US standards whereas VW decided to cheat to get them to US standards.
So enter the yogurt weavers bleating about dirty diesels etc blah but in real world UK normal folk can continue to drive their clean new Euro6 diesels for many years to come. Any large increase in petrol vehicles will increase Co2 levels anyway.

Not sure where this faith in euro 6 etc is coming from, let them submit their cars again to a non corrupt testing facility to see if they can pass a honest test.
I doubt if everyone going on about how much better things are now would be so keen if their cars now fail and they were subjected to the bulshit and cost that the rest of us with older cars are subjected to.

If i recall you just got a new van didn't you? If i am right in thinking I will let you in on something that will blow your mind - it did mine when i first saw it!
Wipe your finger around the inside of the tail pipe - nothing will be on your finger except dust! I honestly thought my exhaust had a fault the first time i saw it.

Come on, you don't need to be a scientist to know that your back door/window used to turn black with a diesel and now it doesn't.
Do you seriously think that this sort of toxic muck doesn't harm anyone? At what point did I say it does not harm anyone ? In fact on several occasions I said the exact opposite, this is what really pisses me off, my objection to being mugged by both the manufacturers and politicians is being spun into I want to poison the world.
Like I said before let's have the euro 5 and euro 6 cars vans retested by a non corrupt organisation and then see how smug some of these holier than thou air police are then.
Just to repeat in case anyone has missed it, I'm not saying that air pollution is good or desired.
I'm saying the manufacturers and the politicians are mugging us.

If they could get air to come out of the tailpipe it would be the end of the problem The biggest cause of problems is the volume of vehicles pushing gas out into the atmosphere.
So where does this bit go then ?
