windscreen replacement
#1
morning ,

Need to sell our old blue berlingo bob and part of that is i NEED to mot it or im scrapping it.

Now i know its in good shape to pass an MOT and therefore be sellable and no one bit at a good price with only 2 months mot left.

the only issue there in lies with the windscreen - it has a 2 ft crack from the drivers side top corner down into the prescribed zone.

Anyone successfully removed a windscreen from a berlingo ? - ive done a few screens but mostly in old vehicles with rubber seals and string , never done a bonded one - but have successfully fitted bonded van windows to side doors.....

I read something about the bottom of a berlingo window being triple bonded and being a bollocks to get out ?

reason i'm looking at doing my self - its 70 quid for glass to my door and a further 20 for the seal and i have some primer/window bond from an over order for fitting van window , its 280 quid locally at the cheapest for a man to do the job - at that price the cars going to be scrapped and the car is no longer insured so i cant go through insurance.

A cheese cutter type wire tool. Poke a hole at the edge through the bonding and poke one end of the wire through, wrap it round the handle and pull. It will cut through the rubber seal easily
The biggest bit is getting the old bonding off the window frame.

They are a nightmare to do without the right kit - youtube may help?

You could kick it out like old style and then just deal with scraping the sh1t off the body frame?

Just ideas

the right tools are not expensive.

i appreciate skill is involved especially in removal, im not too bothered if i break the old window.

as i understand the skill in refitting is getting the right thickness continuous bead on the new screen - i have an airpowered sealant gun from other projects so should not be an issue and i have 3 or 4 suction handles from previous projects also.

I imagine a razor scraper will do good for the old sealant - from what little reading i have done , the best thing to bond a new window to is a thin level layer of old sealant so im not trying to remove all of the sealant just get flat and level. ....
