[Engine] Engine Cutting out at Junctions - Air?
#1
Photo
Hi all, hope somebody can help.  having major problems with what i think is air in the fuel system on my 2006 1.6hdi  Berlingo Desire.
Driving along and coming to a junction the idle sometimes becomes erratic and drops with engine cutting out and wont start again without easy start fluid then will run rough until after a few miles then its like russian roulette if it will do it again. I have replaced fuel filter and all injectors with service exchange units so they are ok, replaced high pressure pump.  Have primed the system as per book now and even manually filled the fuel filter before using priming bulb and i am pulling my hair out.  Any suggestions or anyone else had same problem.  Also just wondering what the electrical connection is on the fuel line near to the priming bulb? looks like it has three normal size pipes coming off it and what appears to be a small connector at the bottom.
Thanks in advance.

Bill

I would try this first. Disconnect pipe from that "electrical thing" going to priming pump.
Insert that pipe in clean 2 L bottle filled with fuel. Prime the pump until hard.
Fasten that bottle under the hood and take the blingo for a spin.

I had similar problem with pug 405 diesel years ago. It was split fuel tube near tank
it was sucking air and with bottle under the hood found the root cause.

I've had similar problems recently - have you checked your air filter recently? My 2006 1.6 HDI lingo has had a shopping list of issues - all seemingly connected to EGR, fuel & MAF (cleaning the MAF sensor improved idling no end, as did replacing the air filter).

Hi Thanks for the Reply.  I have changed the air filter and got hold of a used guaranteed working MAF sensor and still the same.  I have fitted a blanking plate to the EGR so i know it not that.  Someone suggested disconnecting electrical plug to the egr as the contacts sometimes corrode giving odd results.  It seemed to run great once i manually filled the fuel filter until i suppose the air got in again.  will try and trace all the way back to the tank.
Thanks again.

Many thanks for that I will def give it a go as i am now convinced it is air.  I manually filled the fuel filter to the brim and the car seemed ok for about 10 miles then started again.

if cleaning the MAF sensor gave an improvement I would remove the throttle body and clean it out with carburetor cleaner.Worked for me.
