TAP SIZE AND DRILL BIT 8MM GREASE NIPPLE.

Thanks everyone for the excellent advice very much appreciated.
My advise to anyone thinking of purchasing a older model Berlingo is check out the rear axle for this very problem. Many sellers of Berlingos as soon as they know the axle need replacing quickly sell it , and then it someone else's problem . The little cheap Berlingo you thought you got for a song will them become a liability if it need this major work done. In fact if it got anything over 160 thousand on the clock many trust worthy mechanics will advise you just to scrap it,as the cost of repair is more than the van is worth. I do not know if in newer models if Citroen ever fixed this problem. Does anyone know what type of axle suspension they use now. I sure it will be similar in design, just wondering have they still kept their , some say, deliberate little money spinner flaw in their newer models. Brendy.

Well, having recently picked up a M59 1.6hdi 2008 with 80k miles, I'm learning fast. Thanks fella's. No sign of axle problems yet, so when I can keep some heat in my garage I'll check it all out.

Regarding grease nipples - haven't seen one for decades- I seem to remember from years ago that they were 1/8th BSP taper thread. Although ptfe tape was suggested earlier here, I've never known one to need sealing, because the taper thread did the job. Probably all metric now of course. As jj9 said, they shear easily if overtightened.

If the thread is tapered that i suspect it will be 1/8" Bsp - just make sure the thread you tap is a straight thread and not taper as the taper will be on the mating part
