Hi, thought I would try here before I obliterate my heap of crap van.
its a 2002 Berlingo with the 2.0 HDi engine. The car was running fine beforehand.
All I done was change the fuel filter, refilled with fuel before I put it on and now it won't start. Everything is tight and clipped on properly and the plug ontop of the housing in place.
It has 2 pipes and 1 electric connector so I assume it's a Siemens.
I've primed with the bulb until it goes hard, there isn't any air bubbles in the lines.
I've loosened 1 of the unions on the rail and fuel came out so I know the rail is getting fuel.
I let the glowplugs warm several times before turning the engine over, and it just cranks but doesn't fire.
I fitted a brand new Bosch S4 battery to it and still no joy.
First french heap I've had and it will be the bloody last.
Any input?
Thanks

Get someone to turn the engine over whilst you squeeze the life out of the priming bulb at the same time, see if that helps.
Failing that,
Sometimes you need to start them on easy start or carb cleaner to get them going.
Pull the air intake off at the manifold and squirt you chosen substance in whilst an assistant tries to start the engine, if it catches keep it going at a high tick over.

Are the glowplugs actually working ? I tend to change mine every 2 years as they can fail without warning, try putting a meter across the main feed to the plugs and earth, itll tell you if they are any good. They are quite cheap to buy and easy to fit and the car wont start without them.Think of them as spark plugs in a petrol engined car,get a couple fail and thats it !!

bikergraham,
you don't mention what engine you have, I'll guess that it's the 1.9d, as these do rely on the glow plugs for starting.
The Hdi's (2.0 or 1.6 ) normally start fine without the glow plugs, you may get a little more smoke but other than that nothing unusual.
I really don't think this is a glow plug problem

Many thanks guys for suggestions.
I've calmed down now. Ended up need the life pumping out the bulb while cranking on a running car with jump leads.
Time to get rid !

Perhaps but you did say it was fine before ?
Prudent to see if it carries on running ................... just my thoughts but feel free to scrap it or sell it.

Good to hear you got it started.
You could have had the same problem on any make of diesel car following a filter change, no matter which foreigner made it.
