Rear door handle not latching - 2003 van
#1
I've just got an advisory on the Controle Technique for the rear door handle / latching mechanism not working as it should. I got the same advisory last time and thought that it could be cleared by cleaning and lubrication. Obviously not. It needs replacing or renovating.

I have tried searching for the door latching mechanism but failed miserably. The van is a bog standard originally UK registered two equal sized rear door model and the handle mechanism is in the R/H door. Has anyone managed to change this and if so where do I find the part please?

Thanks in advance.

I may not help much but, let´s see you want to change all the rear door mechanism right? or can descrive the problem exactly?

May be you need to by from ebay or send from france the original mechanism, i know is expensive.....

There was or is a common problem with the rear door handle , when trying to open the door the rod that connects with the locking mechanism slips and the door will not open from the outside. It will open from the inside.

There is a repair kit available from citroen Pt no 9135 E4 ,made in france, so should be quite cheaper over there in France.  Big Grin

Remove the large black plug and you will see what is wrong . If that is your problem ?

Thanks. I don't think that it is exactly the same problem as the door opens OK, but the handle fails to return to the closed position. It was noted as an advisory last time and before I took it this time I lathered the mechanism firstly with WD40 and then a day or so later with lubricant but the tester wasn't fooled.

The van is 2003 and coming up 200,000 miles so getting through the CT was good. But the rear door latch is getting to be annoying as I open and close the door several times a day when out at work.

A few days after posting this I called in at a local garage and booked it in for Saturday. Hopefully they can get it sorted.

Your photo looks like another ex-Forestry van. Perhaps we should form a club? Big Grin
