Strange electrical issues
#1
This is just a heads up to anyone getting strange electrical issues, a few months back I noticed every now and again the click sound on my indicators would stop but the indicators would still work. It would do it occasionally then ok for a week or to then do it again. I put it down to perhaps the comms unit was wearing as it seemed to stop if the wheel was turned. Jump forward a couple of months and it was doing it more regular like every other day but with no rhyme nor reason. Then one day stopped at a junction I could hear a relay in the BSI unit clicking like mad, I stopped the car and started it again and the relay had stopped. It did this occasionally for a few weeks but I could not fathom out what this relay was triggering. So a week ago when the weather was better I got down on my knees to have a route around the bsi unit and a general check. Nothing looked out of place or water ingress and I was just shinning a torch under the dash studying the route of the column when I noticed the brake light switch and the wiring to it. The switch was original so I suspect the cable routing to have been done at the factory when built but the wire came from the loom on the bulkhead past the steering column did a u turn and plugged into the switch. On inspection of the wire sheath it was worn away then a tell tale glint from the torch showed up copper wire. It was a bugger to cut back the outer sheath clean up the wires tape up and make good and so it couldn't rub on the steering column any more I routed the wire from the other side of the switch and plugged it in. It was a pure fluke that I spotted it but its been 2 weeks now and everything is working fine with no strange going on and as a bonus my horn is back to normal as well.
I was thinking it was going to be an expensive Comms and bsi replacement but it turned out to be just a bit of tape.
This may help someone else.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Thanks for that info.

Not applicable to my machine at the mo, but as I'm a newbie to Berlingos it will be filed away for future reference.
