Draftfrom near the steering column
#1
Has anyone noticed a draft coming through near the steering column adjuster. Noticable when on the motorway in cold weather. How have you fixed this?

HI there Lingo welcome to the forum, I remember a year ago or so this subject was covered. Have a search of the forum or hopefully someone will come along who can remember it.

That would have been me - still no real fix.

The main issue is the lid on the pollen filter box - if that is not sealed correctly the air bypasses it and mainly comes through the screen vents making the draft more noticeable.

The only way i have got round it is to set the vents on the dash pointing towards your knees with the vent setting on legs and face. On the heater dial, don't use it on full as this also sets the screen demist on, turn it three clicks back and you will feel the air flow change.

One silver cloud lining for me is having a L1 850 which is restricted to 60mph on A roads, anything above 60 and that draft really whistles through!

I've posted on this subject before, the filter was lsightly out and put in properly but didn't fully solve the problem, what is weird with mine is it depends on fan setting, on 3 and it it's an arctic hurricane but play around with the internal/external flow button and it sorts itself out until the next time.

On internal no matter the fan setting there is no draught., only above 60mph when it happens..

3 Thats the magic number!

1,2 and 4 no problem whatsoever!

I suppose we could put a wedge of foam under the steering column? My wifes C4GP is exactly the same

Alternatively, try changing the pollen filter - it may be that it's blocked with muck or just that it's too restrictive, in which case try a different brand.

You don't go anywhere to get over 60mph ;-)

On the B9 there is a bunch of plastic ducting around the steering column under the dash that just clips together. The heater blower motor also slots into this ducting, held by four small bolts. It all seems a bit heath robinson, so is it possible that the draught is coming from this area?

Just a thought, as I'm a newcomer to Berlingos and on a steep learning curve.

Without a doubt its the pollen filters. A pig to change. When i investigated my draught I found that the last owner gave up on replacement and only did one.....Have a look here. its a fiddly job but do-able.....

theres 2 filters in there.....

Did the pollen filters on my B9. As said, a right pain.

But that raises the question, 'Where does the cold air come from if the filters are blocked?'

Because they're not totally blocked, just restricted, and any air drawn into the cab still has to pass through the heating system, pulled in by the fan.

Ps. I haven't looked at the heating system in my M59 yet - I presume it's also got pollen filters in the pipework?

Hi Gravity on the M59 the pollen filter is up behind the glove box towards the centre. If you have air con you will have a pollen filter and even if you haven't got air con some are fitted. Take the clips from the cloth trim and on mine there is one screw to remove then the rectangular panel slides off and then the pollen filter slides out. There are two types of filter and it will only go in one way .
