Bullet with my name on, front windscreen stone chip on M1, next day spread to 6 inch crack. Decided to replace out of pocket at home, £120 all in. Took him about half hour to replace. If you're near Bracknell I can recommend this guy, Southern Car Glass. (No connection to him).

my insurance covers my windscreen for the £75.00 excess.
So if I need a new one it will cost only £75.00.

I went through three windscreens last year. My premium went through the roof this year despite it making no effect on my NCB. I won’t be using the insurance company in future to replace screens.

I once bought a car with a broken screen and took it into our local fitter, Auto Windscreens at the time. They quoted me £180 for insurance purposes. I told them I didn't have cover and they then offered to do it for £75. I got free coffee while I waited as well.
So where does this bit go then ?

After many years of motoring without any windscreen damage at all, in the past 2 years I have had 3 strikes, 2 of which were repairable but the other required a new windscreen (on a Mitsubishi L200 - very expensive)
The roads around where I live (on a relatively busy B road) are cracking up due to zero maintenance. And one of the hits was as I emerged from the northbound Thurrock Crossing (tunnel) on my motorhome. Thankfully it was repairable, though you would not have thought so, looking at it prior to the repair.
Saving money by reducing road maintenance has caused unexpected expenditure. Windscreen damage, wheel damage, cycle and rider damage etc. Not wishing to be political - just stating what I believe to be true.
