Engine light on , running rough no rev counter .
I'm sure its the Crank sensor as mine is mechanical injection old style van so its the only sensor I do believe unfortunately I sold my
code reader and cannot read codes .
any other way of reading them or any other ideas of what it could be before I pop a sensor on it .

'I'm sure it's the crank sensor'.
Is that a diagnosis or just a guess?
Could be cps. Could be lots of things.
If you 'pop a scanner on it' then you cut out the guesswork.
Otherwise you might throw bits at it or waste time poking about without any definite plan.

I only asked to avoid wasting money on parts the the no revs was main clue , I don't have a scanner at the minute so cannot read live data either .
I don't think the mech inj pump 99 1.9d has a cps sensor .
but then again I also thought crank sensor was just for revs did not expect poor running symptom so it must have some basic electronic control even though its mech injection.
I also found mine has an injector with needle lift sensor which sends injection pulse info to ecu
what is does with this info and how it controls the injection pulse - injector pump I'm not sure .
Need to do a bit of study on these anyone got more info I just thought it was pure mechanical hence why I love it so much .

just to clear up fault solved it was crank sensor .
I'm just looking for more info now on how the ECU controls pump and how crank sensor and needle sensor can affect running in a mechanical diesel pump how is it governed and any other sensors .
I wish I had my Haynes still sold it for some stupid reason .
