Berlingo starting issues in the cold weather
#1
Hey guys

I'm wondering if you fellas can help me, or at least point me in the right direction.  I've got am 07 plate 1.4L petrol berlingo, affectionately referred to as the gutless wonder, it has been a great van for the 12 months i've had it.  However recently in the colder weather it has developed a bit of a problem on starting, when i try to start the first time it will sometimes not start, sometimes it will and then die, i wait a few seconds and it will then usually start.  It is getting to a point now though where i have to try 3 or 4 times to get it to start.  this seems to be getting worse and i want to nip it in the bud sooner rather than later.

I'm about to service the vehicle, new plugs, filters and oil, and am wondering if you think this will resolve the issue or if there are any other common issues that might explain, that i can look at whilst doing the service.

Thanks in advance

Dave

A change of plugs and filters sometimes work wonders. See if you still have difficulties after the service.
My choice of things would be the fuel and air filters needing changed.

I had a look at the battery last night and it seems that the cold crank voltage drops to 7.2V from 11.6V on start, so i'm thinking its the battery, I will change that at the same time as the service and report back.

Thanks

Your battery doesn't sound over healthy, I would advise you to change that before anything else as that may sort your problem.

When trying to sort a problem it's advisable to only change one thing at a time so if the problem stops you know what cured it !

As jj9.
A battery reading of 11 volts or less  is technically a flat or discharged battery, and your's is very near that mark.
If those battery voltages are correct, and assuming your alternator is charging correctly, then I'd change the battery before doing anything else.

The reason is that you need a new battery anyway - so you'll have to get one whatever other faults you may find.

I'm picking a new battery up tonight and will fit this evening, then have a look where i stand over the next couple of days, got the service and a couple of other minor jobs planned for Saturday, so should get a couple of days to see if there are any issues before it sees any serious use.

Thanks guys
