I just carried out that same job on my own 1.6 HD Citroen Berlingo First Enterprise (Diesel) van,
first registered new in April 2008, thanks to the information I found on this forum.
I had the same issue: Massive amount of side-play in clutch pedal, and loudly squeaking noises coming from the pedal.
I got two (nylon) bushes from ebay, (exactly the right ones) and fitted them this evening, and now the clutch pedal is working perfectly, with no play at all, and it feels properly smooth and responsive now! (I didn't have to remove the collar or flange on either bush - they work fine as they are). I just road tested it, and very happy and pleased with the result.
(Thanks for that diagram showing the brake and clutch pedal assembly: That really helped a lot!)
These Haynes manuals are absolutely useless nowadays, complete rubbish. They used to be really decent and helpful about 30 years ago, but not any more, and are just not worth the money. The explanations and photos in them are extremely poor these days and of no help at all.
Again, thanks for the good information on this forum about this particular problem!
