Power Socket or Cigarette Lighter Socket

My B9 Multispace is in for service and MOT in a couple of weeks time and I asked the dealer to check/repair/replace the power socket in the gear change console which powers up (or doesn't) intermittently. 

(I've got a USB plug with an LED on it and as I push the plug from side to side the LED goes on and off. 

What surprised me was that the workshop foreman asked me if it is a power socket or a cigarette lighter socket? I always thought they were one and the same thing, what do you guys know?

It's called an accessory point nowadays isn't it ?

The M59 has 2 sockets next to the gear stick, one is a cigarette lighter the other is accessory. Presumably so you can make coffee & at the same time light your Gitanes.
