Without having to take old stat of for nothing, can I get a idea how long your car takes to get warm ?
If left just idling it seems to be a long time to get to 80c , if driven 1 mile before gauge gets of the stop.
I know it's been very cold but seems too long.
Thanks
Kevin

Idling is the slowest way to warm the engine & can glaze the bores. My 1.6 HDi takes 4 miles in the cold weather to reach 80c on the guage but I'm a gentle from cold driver.

What does that even mean?.... read it back to yourself.
State your question a bit more clearly.
It may help if you state your engine type as this makes a difference.

In cold weather my 110PS B9 XTR takes 5-miles and more to warm to the point where the gauge rises and warm air comes out.

A long warm up is the norm for a diesel engine I'm afraid.
The engine is so efficient at converting the fuel to useable energy there is little remaining to go to waste, as such the engine will run a long time even before the thermostat opens unlike on a petrol which will provide cab heat quicker than you can say low mpg.
I once had my 1.6Hdi started from cold with the intent of driving a couple of miles to achieve full engine temperature ready for an oil change ...... an urgent shout from my wife requiring me to take a telephone call meant the car was left idling on the drive and 45 mins later the engine still wasn't at full temperature of 82*
