Bypassed shunt fuse problem
#1
Hello all,

I have a friend who has a 2001 Berlingo. Around 8mths ago it cranked but wouldn't start. AA man checked it over and bypassed the shunt fuse (see pic) as a get home measure and advised going to garage. This meant she had to plug plug it together to start and run and unplug it to stop. The two red wires used for the bypass had a standard spade fuse joining them. This lasted for 8mths. But then had a bad burnout  of the fuse which melted the fuse blade, though the red wires still look to be intact if you see in pic attached. My son put another fuse in and it still wont start, cranks but wont start. She also had a new starter put in at some stage as well. I have tested wiring yet to see if its even live as she isn't local.

Any ideas what might of happened originally when AA man got it going again? What should we do now? Garage told her after AA visit if its working ok leave it like that lol

Many thanks

According to the diagram I've got its the airbag shunt fuse linked to a spare position ? Huh

Its may work the engine running relay which is mounted on the inner wing behind  n/side headlight
its worrying that the fuse blade melted , there must be a dead short in the circuit somewhere

engine fuse box fuses OK?

She drove it like that for 8 months?
Some people don't deserve to drive a Citroën!

And the people at the garage deserve to get a brick, or busted BSI through their window.

Is she absolutely certain that the wires are in the correct positions in the fuse box. That one of them didn't fall out and get plugged back in again?

She may have blown a fuse somewhere, she may have fried the BSI(it's the back of the fuse box), maybe the fuel pump relay (larger, black lump in the engine compartment) or even killed the ECU.
