Hiya all...
I have 3 Berlingos, all 1.9D, 2x vans and one Multi.. I have changed the gearbox oil on them all and have been supplied Total gear 8, this is suppose to be the correct Citroen oil for a BE4 gearbox, so why is it that all three now have graunchy, grinding gear change ? The gear change is not smooth by any stretch of the imagination..
Has anyone else noticed a difference after an oil change ?
What gearbox oil have you used ?

I changed my gearbox oil after a driveshaft came out while working on the strut. The gear change was noticeably smoother after. Like you, I used Total Gear 8 bought from GSF.

Well I have bought some PSA recommended oil from Smith and Allen. EP 75w80 PLUS mineral. I have done 150 miles since and the gearbox is back to being easy again. The worry is that when I drained out the Gear8 is that there was a sheen of gold in it which tells me the gearbox has a very much shortened life.. I better start saving for a recon box...
Does anyone know of a reliable gearbox reconditioners ?

The gold is just the oil - it is historical with gearboxes with bronze bushes in the gearboxes that if gold comes out the bushes are worn. That was very old school tech, dont worry your gearbox should be fine.

Haven't used it myself, but my Dad swears by using a 'gearbox oil treatment' on old gearbox's. (wynnes) make a huge difference(so he says).
Guess its similar to the stuff they have for engines which quietens down old worn engines.
Maybe worth adding it in.

Sadly the gearbox has gone back to being a grindy, reluctant gear change.. A new gearbox I think...
