Engine Fault Light On With On Screen Warning After Filling Up
#1
Hi there folks,

I have had the strangest thing happen to my 2016 1.6 BlueHDi Berlingo and i'm wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard of it before i take it to my garage. As the title says i filled it with diesel paid for it and came back out switched on the ignition and without even starting the car an Engine Fault Warning was presented to me. Previous to this no problem have ever been flagged up and vehicle is in regular every 16K for service nothing ever said about fault codes etc. The vehicle has done 125K but is a taxi and is well looked after always serviced at the same place with the full kit from citroen.

I thought when this appeared i would have had issues but no issues have came about from the light being on. It occured when i was part way through a long distance journey so i had really no choice but to continue as i was. In total i drove 270 miles with the light on and still no problems that could be noticed. The warning light is always on but the audible alarm and screen notification only ever occur upon start up and it never does it while the car is running. Car accelerates as usual so no sign of any limp mode, engine purrs away as normal no unusual noises except for a rattling air filter box, temperature stays steady as normal, cruise control and limiter function normally, no funny smells from the car or exhaust either. Fuel consumption is also unchanged and really in general the car seems fine absolutely no change that i can notice no other warnings or light are present.

Could anyone help with suggestions before i seek professional help. I would say my customer recommended removing my filler cap and replacing as they have had problems with their car showing an engine warning when the filler cap was not fitted right to the car. I don't think it would make a difference as once the fault was registered the light stays on until reset by a fault code machine

Any ideas???

Cheers

Ian

Are you sure its an engine warning light, have you looked it up in the handbook? Could it be to do with the ad blue system and it needs refilling or something?
Are we there yet????? Huh

Hi thanks for replying.

Yeah handbook says to take it to dealership its the triangle with the ! in the middle and at the same time "engine fault" appears up where the radio stations and time appear. No other lights appear on the dash its the same light that appear when your within 500 miles of a service

Also Adblue refill is always notified on the screen and alway starts at 2500 miles to go. It was only filled with 10 litres of adblue about 5-6 thousand miles ago

Well that's covered that I think you will have to take it to Citroen and see if there are any fault codes stored.

Yes I tried to get a reader today but they were either sold out or not stocked. I'm assuming it's just a sensor that's giving a faulty reading, hopefully!!!

This is the EOLYS additive alarm (Yes, there are 2 additives in the more modern diesels: Adblue and EOLYS). Your Eolys tank is running empty and needs a refill. In mine If you keep looking at the radio display the fault should be appearing after engine fault text disappears...it would say additive level low. but mine does not have adblue, so this may have changed (the message displayed) to avoid errors and wrong behavior from the driver.

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply I’m unsure what to do as garage says they have checked my specs for car and it does not show anything regarding EOLYS. It is just about to get code read at the moment so should know more shortly. However the garage did say it sounds like something simple.

Just a little update on the situation. It has been in to Honda (my old citroen service manager is there now). They have read the codes but no active or stored codes are present on the check. It has an outstanding recall for the adblue filler cap which does not conform to standard. As read from the recall notes it does not hold pressure properly resulting in a dashboard warning lamp being illuminated.

He has had to refer me up to citroen to get the recall done and see if this resolved the issue. He says something as minor may not have a related fault code that is generated and this may be why the light is on. They have tried resetting the light but it still remains active.

I had this fault the warning light is for an emissions fault.you could try putting in one of the additives.redex/cataclean to see if it makes a difference.my light was on for 1000 miles then without doing anything different would be on or off.
the new ad blu cap just has a breather in it
