exhaust
#1
just failed on blowing on middle of exhaust but on looking underneath its just a straight section with a connecting backbox at back...i gather cat is up in engine bay. My van is a 2.0 diesel hdi berlingo. My question is, what part do i replace or look at replacing....totally confused tbh.

Looks like there's just 2 parts to the standard exhaust system, the silencer box at the back and the main pipe with cat.
Looking on ebay, there might be some shorter sections without the cat.

Get someone to briefly hold a rag over the tailpipe while the engine is running as you look under the car, this may help you identify where the leak is.

Failing that ask the MOT station for clarification.

So far as I can tell, there's no box in the middle.

The ebay link I posted before also shows just a straight pipe. But if you look through the ebay listings you can see complete sections. Between the 3 examples you should be able to work out what you need.

Hung2hi,
what year is the van?

Doesn't look like there is a middle box.

The centre pipe with the cat is all one piece, the rear of which slopes upwards and this part tends to rot away beside where it joins to the back box, when this happens you either have to replace the whole centre pipe that contains the CAT (expensive) or get a standard centre pipe with the same sloping end and cut it off and weld it to your pipe.

Probably worth visiting an exhaust place and see if they can advise you.

looks like a few parts have been cut out and replaced...no cat is there atm. Where the cat is meant to be theres the corrosion....its a 2005 model

well the tester put down he couldn't do emmisions due to corrosion, so might of picked up on absence of cat then.

Sounds like you're going to have to replace the centre section of the exhaust.
