[Filters & Oil] Metal particles in fuel filter house
#1
Hi

I'm wondering if anyone has been spotting metal particles in the fuel filter housing once changing fuel filter in Berlingo 2016. 1.6 diesel. 90.000km on it now.
I wonder where this can come from and if it is safe to continue using this vehicle.

Hi and welcome.

How are you seeing metal particles in the fuel filter - the UK 1.6hdis have a sealed fuel filter you just change the whole housing.

Depends on how much metal - a very small amount is acceptable but too much means you have a hdi pump failing.

I consider this amount to be quite enough to do something. It's still under warranty but the dealer claims Citroen is not concerned about this. Just change fuel filter they say.

I suspect that is okay - i have seen much more in filters. But i would ask for a copy of the report from Citroen, then you will soon know is your dealer is lying.

As above, get some written evidence from Citroen via the dealer that there's no issue. Hopefully Lighty will see the thread and give a view too. Maybe worth sending him a PM?
What age is your vehicle / how much warranty is left? At 90k is it still a Citroen warranty?

I don't question the local dealer’s honesty. They have been as fair and quick responding as possible.
We have a fleet of 11 Berlingos 2016 and 2017 and quite many issues that seem to be affecting all of them. The largest known problem for us is the time belt is snapping between 80 and 120 th.km. We believe it is because the fuel pump brakes and gets stuck and therefore the belt snaps and quite many parts need to be changed to fix the car after that. The dealer was changing then all the fuel pipes, tank and pump. Basically all the fuel system.
All of them seem to have these metal particles in the fuel filter housing and I cannot believe that is something that is normal. To have metal floating around in the fuel? For some reason they have been changing the fuel tanks and pipes to get rid of these metal in the cars that they have fixed.
We have 4 2016 Berlingos that have had this major fault and I just wait for the 2017 to start having this problem and I would like Citroen to recall and prevent these breakdowns rather then just claiming new fuel filters are fixing the problem.

I don't doubt what the dealer is telling you as it's not in their interest to turn work down. But will Citroen communicate with you directly or is it better in any case to have something via the dealer?
