My Berlingo, a 2007 1.6hdi has recently put the EML on although it is driving perfectly. No loss of power or excess smoke and MPG as good as usual.
I've connected my code reader and the codes are
P0409 - Exhaust gas recirculation sensor "A" circuit
P0104 - Mass or air flow circuit intermittent
P1351 - On my code reader this lists a load of car manufacturers faults but no Peugeot/Citroen and seems to be related to a missfire which my van doesn't have, weird.
Is it possible for the EGR and Mass sensor to fail at the same time or could one have failed and not turned on the EML until more faults happened?
I've done the usual checking connections and cleaned the Maff with contact cleaner but no joy.
When I clear the codes the EML stays off for 3 or 4 engine starts then returns with the same codes. As I said the van is driving perfectly and I don't want to start buying parts on the off chance it will cure it. It's a shame the EML being on is now an MOT failure as it's due in August.
Cheers for any pointers.

One obvious question is, how do you drive it?
Are you doing mainly short journeys?
Do you drive for economy (ie. gentle throttle)?
Sometimes this will trigger the eml because the egr valve doesn't like the above. A good test is to take it on a longer run and give it an Italian tune up while driving it. This can sometimes be sufficient to clear the eml.
Costs very little, can be good fun, and worth trying as a first step.

Not driven for economy but don't thrash it everywhere either, journey is generally ten miles each way on 30, 50 and 60mph roads. An Italian tune up could be worth a try though, there are some big hills around here that will give it a good work out.

I suppose it could be possible that the EGR is gummed up a bit so not functioning correctly and this is allowing the MAF sensor to also register a fault due to an abnormal air flow or something
You may have to remove and clean the EGR valve to see if that cures the problem.

I've got a bit of an update after taking a closer look at the EGR.
First off I removed the air filter, most of the mounts were missing their rubber inserts. This was allowing the filter to vibrate and it was resting on the plastic top of the EGR and has worn a hole completely through it! The top of the EGR seems to be some sort of solenoid and I'm guessing this won't take too kindly to having a hole in the top of it.
Next question. I can see three bolts holding this solenoid to the EGR, can I just replace this rather than the complete EGR? Is the same EGR fitted to all 1.6HDI engines?
Thanks all for the suggestions so far.

Hi mate, same engine as mine. The EGR is listed as one unit, don't think the solenoid can be gotten on its own:
EGR circuit
Just ordered new filter housing rubbers for mine.

A partial update...
I fitted a new EGR and now the code relating to that has stayed away once cleared so success there. The P0104 code returned though so I need to have a good poke around the MAF and associated pipework as leaks can cause errors apparently. The joints on the intake pipe from the front of the engine bay to the air filter are pretty loose but I'm not sure if that would cause a problem?

P0104 is possibly an electrical connection fault?
