Swivel seat for drivers seat?
#1
Hi, and hello everyone I'm new here!
Nice to find a Berlingo camper specific forum!

I have been looking online to see if its possible to fit a swivel seat to the drivers seat in my Berlingo camper?
I've found some old posts, sounds like it might be tricky but not impossible.

Has anyone done this?  Is it possible?

I would need to find someone to do it for me, so also any recommendation for someone that can do the work, we are in West Sussex so any recommendations for people that can do work on microcampers in or near this area would be gratefully received!   Smile

Yes, it has been done. There was a guy in Germany who had a video for a while showing his B9 swivel seat. Can't trace him now.
It was very complicated. First, the whole seat was raised about six inches. Then it tilted sideways and half-swivelled. Then it was laid semi flat, then tilted in the opposite direction, then the swivel was completed, and the seat lowered.

When I got the urge to turn my B9 into a camper I considered swivel seats. But I couldn't see an advantage big enough to justify the process and the expense. If you swivel the Berlingo front seats, do you leave the rear seats in place? If so, why? There is no foot room for people facing each other, and trying to sort out a firm anchorage for a table between the seats is another headache I didn't want. Then how do I build in a bed? The B9 is limited for length, and swivel seats would be a drawback, or extra hassle swivelling them back each time.

It's very different with larger camper vans. Swivel seats are easy, they are on the same level, there is plenty of footroom, and a side panel on which to anchor a table, with space left over for a rock n roll bed etc. So there is a good reason for fitting them. The rationale is not so convincing for the Berlingo.

That's just my take. Others will differ.  But hey, it's your car, your preference and your life. Hope you do it successfully, as you like it.

It was the German company Zooommobile who had a Berlingo Swivel seat.....Very similar to this Caddy one

Well engineered and no doubt expensive. They do not do them anymore....

Hey, thanks for your reply Gravity.
Maybe should have explained, my Berlingo is already converted into a camper (a single berth Chapel Motorhomes conversion) so I dont have any rear seats to worry about and the bed + cooking ring & sink already in place.  As its a single berth its not a rock and roll bed, and I leave the bed up permanently as its less hassle.

I was thinking on getting the drivers seat on a swivel just to give a little more room, rather than sitting on the bed I could also have the seat.  (I am usually camping with my dog so he can lie on the bed and I can sit in the seat  Smile )

But it is only a thought at the moment.  It sounds like it might be more complicated than I had hoped, in which case it wont be worth the time and expense of bothering.

Ah ... very nice conversions, Chapel. Now I see the reason for your question. Hope you find a swivel seat setup, because in your case it would be a realistic proposition.
