[Transmission] What gearbox sump washer/plug

Hi All,

I was thinking of replacing my gearbox oil (M59 2007, 1.6HDi, manual 5-gears), but not entirely sure what size the gearbox sump washer is. I assume I cannot reuse it.

As useful as the servicebox may be, they have only listed the plug, no info on the washer itself (N 13 in the pdf). Reading here: http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/peugeot...-seal.html, it seems that the washer is 16mm copper crush washer. Is this correct?

Well, yes, if a 16mm copper washer does not fit I'll reuse the old one. I was just wondering if someone knew exactly.

I'd go with geoff on this one.....just use the old one, like they do all of the time in garages!

They always used to charge me on the sheet for a sump washer though.

Yeah but I bet you never got a new one every time.

The washers used to come in the box with some oil filters.

Just in case anyone is interested in the exact measurements of the bolts/washers for the gearbox.

The gearbox sump washer is copper 22mm OD, 16mm ID, 1mm thickness, but works with a copper compression washer 2mm thick. The bolt is 21mm socket.

The filler washer is aluminium washer, 22mm OD, 14mm ID, 1mm thickness, but works with 2mm washer. The bolt is 19mm socket.

No leakage with a torque setting for both bolts of ~22Nm. Mine took (from the filler) just under 1.9L of oil (Total Transmission Gear 8 75W80).

In case anyone is interested in changing the gearbox oil on the M59, here is a video of my attempt at doing it:

In hindsight, I would probably use the top of the gearbox to fill it up (~1.9L). The 75W80 is really thick and even with heat, still very difficult to push inside the gearbox with a syringe. I have seen other bottles with some sort of a hose out of the cap that one can turn around and squeeze, but unfortunately the Total is a simple bottle.
