Drawer runner slider question
#1
Help needed; is there a formula to assess the length of sliders required. I have made a sliding table extension but just copied a similar set up in a wardrobe drawer. I fancy making a drawer for my stove with ball bearing hinges but need to know how to assess the length of slider required.

Hi Lakeside, I used some full extension drawer runners. They're available in various sizes depending on your design, you may need to modify the sides of your table to fix the runners. I used 400mm for drawer storage boxes in my "chuck" box, and they can take the weight of any camping use. Don't know if the link below is any good to you. I don't think there
is a particular formula to use, as i said my storages boxes hold up to about 30 lbs in weight. I can't see a problem with a table top, just make it the size you want and get the hinges to suit.

a general rule is to check the difference between 'collapsed' and 'fully extended' length of the rails. This needs to be the same length as you want the drawer to move out.
If you don't want the shelf to extend all the way out, you move the rails in as far as you want.
Noe that unless you get some 'triple action' rails, they will be longer than the depth of the shelf when collapsed.
Push-to-open types can be tempting, but unless you have extra locks, I expect that they'll 'jump the lock' if you hit a pothole.
(I'm considering a conversion of my 1999 berlingo, so are studying parts)
