That way up looks good to me it does after all support the cable and prevents it from falling ( onto the driveshaft if I recall from a few years back ).
If you fail to fit it the car won't explode jus rerout the whole cable to give the smoothest and easyiest route to the actuating lever - over the top towards the wing is good - and you'll find the clutch becomes lighter to press.

Mines hydraulic mate, how come you've an M59 with a cable clutch?
