Eurotunnel Height Restrictions
#1
Hi

We have a 2011 Multispace XTR and wanting to book for crossing to France in chunnel. Has anyone managed to book in with same car, including roof rails, as lower height car? The height limit is 1.85 so I don't think there's hardly anything in it but wondered how strict they are?

The cheaper tickets for the higher height allowance cars or the above category with roof box etc are sold out for the times we want so would give us more flexibility price wise to do it this way.

Thanks

Hi Steph. When I went through the first time I was sent in to the higher vehicle lane. Now when I book I automatically book the higher vehicle lane, with a roof box or not just to save any hassle. If its your first time, then you could risk it and see what they say.

Thanks for that Corker. Did you have a roof box on the first time you travelled and had you pre booked?  I'm tempted to risk it but wondered what would happen if the section for higher vehicles was full.

You are welcome. I have only gone through with a roof box in the high vehicle lane. When I’ve gone through without, my roof rails on my multi-space would hit the barrier that I tried for the low vehicle lane, consequently I always use the high vehicle lane, unless they have changed things as it’s over 2 years since I’ve been to France. I hope that this helps.

Tell them you're claustrophobic when you get put in the lanes, and they'll put you in the higher carriage.

Sorry for delay in replying but have been trying to log in several times with the lost password request. I was able to post the first couple of days despite being told my attempt had been unsuccessful but subsequently was locked out. Have messaged the administrator but haven't heard back so thought I'd have another go this morning and it worked.

Anyway, the difference would have been around £40 each way. The date of travel has had to change now and the prices are very similar so have gone for the higher vehicle channel.

As you can see from my reply to geoff, we're now booked in as a higher vehicle. Thanks for taking the time to reply Corker.

That's an interesting solution thanks!  As you can see from my other replies we are  booked into a higher carriage so the dilemma is now resolved.
