[Engine] NEW CAMBELT PROBLEMS.
#21
Hi folks,
almost done, just got to fit the new Aux belt, idlers & tensioner, it's been so hot though & I've got no shade at all here, I've been managing to do a couple of hours work in the evenings, when it's a bit cooler, done an oil change & new oil/air filter so should be good for a while, hopefully I'll have it all finished tonight.
As always you need 'special' tools to do certain jobs, as is the case with the Aux belt tensioner, mine is the automatic type, a tip for anyone else changing one of these is to use the spanner you undo the disc locking nut on an angle grinder, I used a length of square section steel tube over the handle for extra leverage, it does the job - that's all that matters.
Thanks again to everyone for all your info & advice.         [Image: smile.png]

Here's a couple of pics showing how the old Aux belt ripped through the lower Cam belt casing, & into the Cam & Injector Pump sprockets, really lucky it didn't ruin the engine !

Jammy you - this killed our Renault Laguana a few years back and the irony was that I had a new Aux belt in the boot to fit but never got around to actually doing so. Expensive lesson learned.

Guess who fits a new Aux belt first thing he gets another car?

I'm just about to replace my cam belt I know it's not a easy job to do and I'm quite confident of my mechanical knowledge but is this a job to far for a home mechanic

What engine are you talking about.

If you have a brain and a handful of tools you should be able to do it no problem.

With ref to Stevie3393,
I finished mine today & it's running great, relatively straightforward if you're mechanically minded, I have a DW8 1.9 Diesel engine, as jj9 says, what engine do you have ?

Hi folks,
I finished my van on Tuesday, and last night - Wednesday I was back doing my delivery job, 26 drops with a total of 20 miles, yep, it's a lot of stop/start all the time, I'm pleased to say the van performed marvelously with no problems at all, it's now covered 180,000 miles & the MOT is due in August, all I've got to do is fix the windscreen washers, I'm pretty sure it's the actual switch on the steering column, it sometimes works with a wiggle.
All the best chaps, speak again soon.     [Image: biggrin.png]
