I'm thinking of buying a 2006 1.6HDi with an auto gearbox. I read some recent threads about some gearboxes not being very good and wondered if that's a general rule for 1.6 autos, or are there specific types to avoid?
Thanks

If you're read the threads you already really know the answer to your question, the EGS box isn't a true auto box and given that it will always have flaws and never drive like a true auto box as it's a compromise.
A few more opinions and a good read....

Personally from what I've read I would avoid the EGS gearbox if at all possible.

I don't think the M59 had an auto option but I could be wrong.
Like polar I only know of the EGS version on the B9.

The 1.6 petrol M59 had the option of a auto but it was a normal auto nothing like the autos on the B9.

It's a diesel, the seller has also confirmed that it's a manual box so the ad listing is in error. It's being advertised at a good price so I wasn't sure if that was because of the auto box. But now it'll probably be for some other reason...

It wasn't on facebook market place was it?
I've noticed loads of cars on there shown as an auto when they're quite clearly a manual, maybe it's a default setting and the sellers don't realise or something.
