[Engine] timing belt failure
#1
Hi guys i'm new on here, i'm more of Land Rover guy this is our first Berlingo so go easy on me!

The timing belt has failed on our 2012 dv6dted (9HF) 1.6 Hdi.

I need to source a replacement engine for it and am wondering if it absolutely has to be (9HF) that goes back in or will say a (9HZ) or a (9HP) go in without too many problems?

I've spent hours on google and can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere.

Thanks in advance. Sad

When all else fails, read the manual!

Not literally this time, but you could do worse than ask Citroen - they make them, after all.
Probably a letter would be the best way to get a definitive answer.

Good luck with that one...

You're never going to get Citroen advising fitting a different engine type than the one fitted   Rolleyes

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have bought a replacement with the same engine code but it's from a Peugeot. I'll update after its fitted and let you know if it works straight out the box or if I have to fit the injectors from my engine to it first.

Hi Polar.

Thats the impression i've been given.  In all honesty the current engine has done over 130K and I don't know if the belt has ever been changed.

Replacement engine I have bought has only done 49K. I take it that the best course of action would be to fit a new belt to it before fitting in the van?

I would, easy to do with engine on the bench, then you know your are covered for another 100k, i think the citroen recommendation is 150k but i wouldn't go to that

Not sure on the codes but the earlier engines are 16 valve aren't they but the later ones are only 8V I think. Strange as you would think it would be then other way round.

We had a recall on our 2011 1.6hdi C4GP to have the cambelt changed - something to do with an oil seal failing causing oil to get on the belt and breaking it down
