Is there a mileage or other limit to the amount of times a DPF can regen with needing intervention from Lexia / Diagbox?

I am not sure if I understand correctly your question...
The ECU software has an alarm-like limit for the number of automatic regeneration that can be done by a dpf filter, that is counted by the number of times you have open and closed your fuel filler cap (i.e., number of diesel tanks, that is proportional to the amount of EOLYS that has been burned by the car). In my case this alarm told me my dpf would need renewal circa 180000 km. When I refilled the EOLYS tank (around 170000 km) I also reset the DPF filter using Diagbox. It then assumed I had a new one, and this limit counter changed again. It now has 182000 km and still going, no alarms, no lights on, nothing bad about it.
This regen limit number for the filter depends a lot on your average driving conditions (on the amount of black smoke you actually produce while driving). If you drive a lot in the city, the 180000 km are very likely to be near the physical limit of your dpf filter. if you do lots of motorway, then this might be different, and it could last more, some say it might survive past the 200000 km (mine is on its way to this mark, let´s see).
If you have to force regenerations with the software more than twice, with lots of high-rev motorway runs in between, and the alarms still on, then it is likely that your dpf filter needs renewal...
Hope this answers your question...

Prima, ich danke dir!
Yes, that's what I had in mind. The car in question has over 210000 Miles, the EML is on & the dealer wanted money to reset it. So it was probably the number of tank refills and could also be that it really does need a new DPF. I did also read on another thread that if there can be problems with the fuel filler cap not making good contact and causing an anti pollution fault
