HDi AdBlue owners beware
#31
Has anyone pay for the tank out right? I currently have urea, engine management and service light on my Citroen DS4 2016, it’s got 3 recalls which one is the rear cap and the converter, just wondering if anyone knows if I could get the tank ect replace because of it? My code reader has said nox sensor which is £550 and adblue £1000

Mine's a 2017 Blue - Is the filler cap that is regarded as the upgrade got a white (vent) insert in the middle ?? Mine has that and it certainly looks like some form of a vent.

I have a 2016 1.6 BlueHDI 120 hp 16,000 miles- An engine warning light has come on but there is no fault code, it just reads as a temporary fault, "fuel pressure lower than reference value" The urea light came on a while later but has since gone out again. I changed the fuel filter and the car is running perfectly, I just can't clear the engine light. Was thinking of changing the fuel rail pressure sensor but not sure if that's the answer? any ideas?

Go to a fuel station with truck pumps and there is nearly always an adblue pump and its normally 60p ish a litre. even at mega expensive motorway service stations it is only 85p a litre...

I get mine from the local tractor dealer, 20ltr for £13. Give it a try unless you a city dweller???

Following up from this earlier post.

An engine fault light came on followed by the UREA light and eventually a countdown to 700 miles before cut out.

I called Citroen regarding a goodwill warranty claim, as they failed to inform my of two recalls. It took a while of chasing before they agreed to book it in with a repairer and diagnose the fault etc. EMG Croydon did this, they changed the ad-blue cap, replaced the catalytic converter, updated the software (which seems to have fixed the display screen turning on and off randomly) and tested the adblue pump, injector, sensors etc which they said was working ok.

However, a while ago I found some mice had been nesting in the fuse box, they had chewed the insulation on a few wires, but none were broken. I cleaned it up and wrapped the damaged insulation. EMG have said the problem is a broken wire and or fuse box and have quoted to replace the engine loom and fuse box at huge cost. I have now re-checked the cabling and there is no break in continuity but I can't be sure if there is a problem with a relay or something. I can get a new fuse box & plugs to solder into the existing loom at a reasonable cost, any thoughts or advise? So far Citroen have covered all costs but the warning lights have come back on as soon as I collected the car but no countdown yet.

This is turning into a never ending joke.

Citroen repairer, EMG said there is a wiring problem which is causing the warning lights to come on.

So, I have replaced the fuse box and soldered on 3 new plugs that were slightly damaged. I've also checked the loom and all connections around the fuse box and ecu area, I removed everything and checked every wire and plug, nothing is damaged.

The car has been back to EMG and they have again said there is a problem with a broken wire!!!
I said fine, can you fix it, they sat on the car for a week before saying they did not have a technician to do the work. I have the car back and am no further forward.

Does anyone know if there is a way to test the adblue pump so I can verify what I've been told?

I’ve had the adblue tank replaced under warranty on my 69 plate berlingo van and only had it back one week and the same issue has reoccurred - warning lights on, “emissions fault” and the dreaded count down but this time only started at 300 miles….  Waiting for the garage to open tomorrow (Monday) to see where we go from here. Incredibly frustrating and means hiring a van to use for work at my own expense. Anyone had this issue recur even after having the tank replaced? Any suggestions on what else could be the cause of the issue?

You will only be able to test these things using Diagbox software and the complementary Actia (Lexia) interface, both can be had on ebay for a fee, and need installed onto a laptop running Windows 7 32 bit and from there, you can get advanced codes plus testing and live data from everything on the vehicle. There are plenty of posts and writeups on DiagBox, also tutorials online via YouTube.

Yours may be one of the odd vehicles which has both AdBlue tank and Eolys pouch. The Eolys (PAT) fluid system is inside a black box under the floor, just ahead of the drivers side rear wheel. Also the AdBlue cap recall can probably be replicated at home by drilling a 3mm hole straight through the AdBlue cap so air can get in when the pump runs. I think this was the flaw, no air vent, causing the AdBlue tank to collapse eventually under vacuum pressure from the injector pump that sends the fluid into the fuel tank.

That sounds feasible. The AdBlue caps on the trucks I drive have vent holes around their circumference, giving such a large total venting area that it suggests this can be an issue.

There may be another side to the coin though. I recently had a warning come up whilst driving: "Incorrect AdBlue quality. Torque will be reduced by 80% in 1 hour" which then counted down. Had to have a call-out. Turned out that the AdBlue had crystallised inside its tank, restricting or blocking the feeder pipe, possibly because of the large venting holes. However, this was clearly a one-off - none of the Volvo technicians had a clue what it was until they investigated (which took 6 hours), and that is unusual.
