handbrake travel and wheels fitment
#1
Question
hi there my first post on this forum

on my mk2, 2010 model, do I need to remove the middle centre console to get to the adjustment for the handbrake travel? [which is almost as far as it will go] or is it adjusted from underneath?

next question, what wheels fit from other citroen or peugeot models?

many thanks

assuming this is for the new model......push front seat back.o.s.f....split plastic handbrake cover[clipped]..release handbrake..remove middle console..remove felt covers..remove 2 10mm bolts and 2 10mm nuts[box spanner]..lift up cover..no need to take it off...you will see the adjusting part..first push the the front part with thumb..forward as hard as you can..before the blue arm, don't forget handbrake released.
.....[to release handbrake]..do as before but.keep pressing.. turn the blue bit to the left.....just experiment, you will figure it out..........always a good idea to have good brake pads or shoes...[cables stretch over time]...before adjusting handbrake

wheels:
i think 108 stud.

Its not the new model, its the one that looks like this

theres no removable part near handbrake lever

also, will a steering wheel with airbag fit from any other citroen model of the same age? [saxo?] as the steering wheel thats on it is falling to bits around the edges

There is ! , its the centre console , theres about 6 screws to remove  2 at the heater end two in the middle and 2 at the rear (low down near the floor, accessed from behind the seats through a wee hole .) It will lift up far enough to adjust the cable. To take it out is a bit of a juggling match. But the other end at the wheels is normally the source of handbrake problems

Why not try a cheap leather steering wheel cover 3/4 quid off ebay and 20 mins to fit on , looks good and feels good .

I assume you’ve adjusted the shoes up before trying to tighten the handbrake? You should always strip and clean the rear brakes before trying to wind the arms forwards in the drums which will adversely effect the foot brake and stretch the cables prematurely! Even if it just feels like there’s lots of slack as the handbrake arms can be stuck forward again causing there to be lots of travel, Fix the cause not the symptom!! Ive lost count of how many times I’ve seen diy mechanics bodge handbrakes by just tightening the cable and then costing themselves lots of money or managing to sell a car with an underlying fault

I've noticed that the handbrake warning light does not always come on so am thinking it's the switch. Is the warning light switch mounted on the handle or thereabouts?
Not really an issue as it's pretty obvious when the handbrake is on, but if it's a simple fix I'd like to sort it.
Thanks

Aha, found the Catcar page, does this mean I have to take the handle off?

You would think you will be able to get to the switch without removing the handbrake lever.

Yeah, it's held in with a screw & easily removed. The connector came off the switch while removing it but the wire is on the outside so not an issue.

The switch is a simple earth contact but it's held in by a black coated screw, mine had a bit of corrosion probably from a drink being spilt so replaced it with a zinc coated screw and all's good.
