Rear wiper working from indicator stalk
#1
The rear wiper on my 2011 VTR has started to operate when indicating in either direction. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same issue? I'm guessing the problem may lie in the steering column, but apart from removing the wiper arm & blade (the wash still works) any ideas would be appreciated.

Could be anything really, a bad earth on a light cluster maybe, do all the indicators work as they should when they are on, not dim or anything.

Could also be a problem with the wiper stalk, I'd be tempted to unplug it and see what happens. But if the can bus system is up the wall then who knows, it might be easier to untangle the mysteries of the universe than fathom out canbus.

Thanks Peter
Indicators work fine and the wipers/washers do too. I'm in Spain with it until October and has it only started since I've been here, I will have to look deeper into the wiper/ indicator switches. Might be too much dust and sun, but if I crack the problem, I will post my findings, but don't hold out for a easy resolution!

I also had phantom back wiper that would operate rear wash/wipe randomly......While looking for the part number of the control, ( I was going to replace it) I found that the clamping band was loose.......

Quick tighten and no issues since.....

Thanks 48 Pop, will give this a look at. Now started to act randomly as well, so looks promising!

Mine has started doing the random wiping when driving as well so i'll have to have a look at that fix as well. Does all the plastic trim around the steering column come off easily?

Hi ed34. Plastics are always a bit tricky, but this is how you remove the steering wheel shrouds: 1. Undo the two screws securing the lower shroud,( mine were Torx screws). 2.Unclip the upper shroud from the lower one, then remove the lower shroud, releasing the lower end of the shroud from the slot in the steering column bracket. 3. To remove the upper shroud, first you have to unclip the plastic surround from the instrument panel. Both panels can then be removed from the facia. Note that both panels may be attracted by a piece of material, but it can be discarded on reassembly. Fitting is in reverse. With hard plastics, it's easy to break a bit off, or scatch the finish! Good luck!!
