Where to put the Thetford
#1
Over the years I've done a number of self builds for solo use, mostly on Ford Connect Hi-Top where there is ample headroom for most people.

For a variety of reasons I've recently acquired a Citroen Berlingo MPV which, although fairly high inside, is not as high as the Connect.

As with most on these conversions the height of the bed box is critical and is invariably dictated by the height of the cassette toilet where, even using a Thetford Qube, the headroom in a Berlingo is tight or even non-existent.

Whilst trying various potential layouts I discovered that the Thetford will sit nicely in the rear seat footwell allowing the height of the bedbase to be lowered somewhat resulting in increased headroom in the back.
With an extending section at the front end the bed box which passes comfortably over the top of the Thetford it can be easily retracted to give access  when needed. Sorted.

Good idea if you really need a Portapotti.

My take on a Portapotti is that in a small camper such as my B9 it is just a huge fancy bucket taking up precious space. I don't need such a giant object that I only ever use in emergencies. On the last few trips I haven't used on-board facilities at all.

Working height in the B9 is at much more of a premium than in, say, a larger van conversion, so I sold my Portapotti, and replaced it with a small lidded bucket. Designing the Portapotti out at the beginning of my camper conversion (see other thread) gives me greater space all round, and much more comfortable bed/table and seating height, plus more versatile storage.

I tend to camp in remote spots where nature is very obliging, but even if I used registered sites I would probably use their own facilities, so i don't miss the Portapotti at all.
