Diesel filter replacement - 2.0hdi

Hi all 
Thinking of changing the diesel filter on my '04 2.0hdi 
( Siemens type housing with screw on collar ) .
Haynes manual makes it sound tricky , but watched a few videos online ( one in French - one in Russian ! )
that made it look simple enough .
Anyone got any advice ?

Pretty easy but the rings can be very tight so a very large pair of pipe grips helps

There is a rubber tube hanging down inside my engine from the bottom of this diesel filter, is the other end meant to be connected anywhere?

I have never driven a diesel before and all seems well (and smooth) just looked dodgy...

I have 2003 2litre HDI Multispace.

It's probably the drain hose. Diesel filter housings often have a drain cock / plug to allow the fuel to be drained so that any water that has collected in the filter can be drained out, it also makes it a bit less messy to change the filter.
