Hi, I will start by saying this subject may have already been covered on here, my van is due its annual mot and with the new regs in force I am asking you members have you encountered problems with emissions, my van is a 1999 on a "t" plate and although is very reliable it does put smoke out occasionally . To get to the point (sorry I am waffling) are m o t testers allowing any movement on emissions on older diesels. Thanks in advance

I think the only concessions are made for vehicles from the 80's or earlier. IIRC the way the smoke test is done is to first rev the engine to purge any unburnt fuel, then test at about 2500 rpm or half the max revs whichever is the lower. So, if your smoke comes out when accelerating, it should not be so bad.
May be worth getting some Millers or injector cleaner in a near empty tank and doing an Italian tune up on the way to the MOT.

Well it has past its mot, I used a fuel treatment as advised by a member along with egr cleaner. The van is 19 yrs old and 101,000 miles on the clock, we don't use it much but it is a handy van when needed.thanks for your input and advice
