Chasing cables behind the dashboard
#1
Got a dashcam and DAB aerial to fit and I don't want to see the wires really.
Is there a route from the from either windscreen pillar to the radio area? I had a quick look and it just doesnt seem to be a way.

Hope it's ok but I have the Partner Tepee not the Berlngo.

It IS possible to pull the wire, but yeah, modern cars have... limited space behind the dash...

Unfortunately, in my experience, you'll need to use a stiff wire and touch to get the wires through. Mirrors are a good help, and a boroscope even better.
(This is my general experience on my M49 Berlingo, my sister's Euro Ford Fusion, my brother's long line of Suzukis.... they're all a nightmare to pull wires in)

Incidentally, I'm about to fit a dashcam with backing camera in my M49. Just need to find some courage first...

Easiest way is whip the glove box out and run it along strengthening tube behind the dash ?? If you want a nice job making of it, it takes five mins to whip it out! Will save you time over fishing too!

I still haven't managed to remove the glove compartment in my M49, so...
(The open version. There's a whole crate worth of screws... )

I'm assuming that you'll be using a 12Vadapter in the cigarette lighter port?
Is it controlled by the ignition switch?
(I believe that they are on newer Berlingos, but not on my car)

Anyway, you may want to add another port somewhere inconspicious for the adapter, so that you can still use the regular one for charging cell phones and whatnot.
I bought a 'double size' with one 12V port, and 2x USB ports, both behind rubber dust covers.

You can find similar stuff in boat equipment stores.
(This one was from the boating section at BILTEMA, a Swedish HW chain)

I mean, if you're going to mess about behind the dash anyway, it won't hurt to add a bit extra functionality. ;-)

Is the glove box separate in the M49 ? It looks like a dash out job to do anything in there.
So where does this bit go then ?
