It's possible that the ECU will restrict the boost if it thinks the EGR is faulty, that was certainly the case on my 2.0, rpm was restricted too.
If there are no changes once you've looked at the wiring, another thing to try is to unplug the MAF. Chances are that will put the EML on but it may allow the boost.

Don't forget to reset the faults after every change, sometimes the ECU only auto clears the faults after a few good starts..
