Windscreen wipers?
#1
Never realised my windscreen wipers are road speed sensitive.
Only had the car 10 years, and just noticed today. On the low speed continuous wipe, when I came to a halt the wipers slowed down to intermittent. When I moved off again the went back to the normal continous low speed.
Unless this is indicative of battery/alternator failure.
No warning lights on, always starts. I could understand iminent battery/alternator failure if the wiper speed slowed down when engine revs slowed down, but this only happened when the car stopped.
I think I may be over thinking this and need to go and lie down in a dark room.

Yep - regular feature on many cars today.

I have another car which cycles the wipers according to the amount of rain on the screen, from one wipe every 30 seconds or so, up to maximum speed. Very useful, as I never need to touch any switches - it's all automatic.

But I've found one snag. If light rain is falling and a heavy lorry is driving towards you pouring spray from its side, the wipers are caught out. They only become fast after the spray has hit the windscreen and obscured your vision, whereas a good driver will see the spray coming and turn the wipers to fast before he gets blinded.

Automatic systems only react - they can't anticipate. There's hope for humans yet!

Its the one feature I hate on my berlingo - rain is not speed sensitive but my wipers are. It makes no sense.

Now the transit van I have at the moment until i get my Berlingo back has 6 settings of intermittent wipe which works a treat on these heavy mist mornings.
