[Transmission] Gear linkage

Wondering if anyone can help me out with this, i have a 2007 1.6 diesel multispace where the throw on the gearstick has become noticeably stiffer in the last fortnight. Does anybody know what this could be ? Many thanks David.

Below is a diagram of a typical Berlingo gear linkage set up.

Try lubricating all of the balls at the end of the rods, (# 2, 3, 4, 5) and any other moving parts in the area. (spray grease)

The connections at the base of the gear stick could also need lubrication. 

Get a helper to move the gear stick through the gears so you can see how the linkages work from under the bonnet and you may spot something that looks suspect.
