I've read on a few of the wheel posts that if fitting alloys that you need new wheel bolts could anyone recommend a size please ? I've got a set of 17" wheels to go on my 2008 Berlingo and the tyres are 205/40/17
Thanks
Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I have a 2016 B9 Multispace with alloys.
When fitting new tyres today, my mechanic pointed out that the spare wheel in the cage underneath was the original but it is a full steel wheel with the factory stickers still on!
Strangely though there is a 50 mph max speed warning sticker even though it is full size. Also there is another sticker indicating that different bolts should be used for the spare.
My mechanic said that he thought the alloy bolts would be too long for the steel wheel. There are no alternative bolts in the tool kit which would surely be a problem should I get a puncture when out and about.
Anyone else come across this please?
Should I get a set in case of a puncture? Seems strange they are not included with the jack and brace kit.
Permanent alloy wheel bolts have flat shoulders while permanent steel bolts are conical.
The "universal" type supplied ( assuming they are still present) accommodate both.
I had a 'discussion ' about this wwith a garage once and after some further investigation they grudgingly backed down.
It is on my to do list. But not right at the top

Thanks for the replies. Should have said my wheels are the original alloys but the spare is the full size steel one with the original tyre with stickers still attached. I still wonder why it's limited to 50mph?
It could be original tire itself is rated only for spare use, thus cheaper for the manufacturer and maybe lighter for weight reductions. The tire will have ratings marked, if you want to be sure.
Another reason could be that the OEM alloy bolts, while are designed to fit with steel wheel for spare use, are meant to be used only temporarily in such case. They surely look weird, and the flat washer will wobble free.
