ECU Swap question, 90 into a 75
#1
Hi all

I am after some advice on ECU’s please. I have recently bought a 2012 Berlingo, 1.6 LX HDI 75 SWB with 65K Miles. It’s my first ever Citroen. I read somewhere (I think it was HDI Tuning literature) the the 75bhp Berlingo and the 90bhp Berlingo use the same Injectors, Turbo and Intercooler. The 110 bhp Berlingo uses bigger Infjectors, bigger Turbo and bigger Intercooler. So in my head that means the 90bhp just has a different mapping in its ECU, is this the case of is there more to it. If it is the case does that mean I could get a 90bhp ECU out of a right off, put it into my 75bhp and get 90bhp out of it instead. I know this sounds too good to be true but I thought I would ask just in case it is possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

it would be easier to get yours mapped really

Yep AFAIK, it's the same engine, just with a different ECU map & like frank says easier to get it remapped. In fact, you can probably go to 110 BHP. HDI Tuning will sell you an ECU, do a postal swap remap or email you a different map. I've not used HDI Tuning & have no connection with them, but have swapped a few emails with the Steve @ HDI, he seems a nice fella & knows his stuff.
There are some other posts on here about remaps, a simple search will pick them up.

Yep just remap it, to use a second hand ECU I think you'll have to get it coded to the car's immobiliser anyway.

The 110 probably uses the same injectors and intercooler, the Turbo is basically the same except it has variable vanes on it.

You can remap a 90bhp one to 115bhp easily, you can probably do the same with a 75bhp too.

Thanks. Yeah, HDI say that both the 75 and the 90 can be mapped to 110bhp as everything is the same in them, but that the Turbo and Injectors would need upgrading to go higher. They charge £300 but I would have taken 90bhp if it was just a quick and cheap 90 ECU Swap.

Thanks.  I was hoping that things like the immobiliser was an independent module and not part of the ECU, but sounds like I had a bit too much wishful thinking going on. By the time to start reprogramming the keys to the ECU as well, it would definitely make more sense to just get it mapped to 110 / 115 instead.

Maybe you could get a 90BHP ECU with the Immo Off option from HDI Tuning?
