Hi guys
I'm looking at getting a Berlingo 1.6HDI (diesel) for work - probably a 2015, 2016 or 2017. I live in Jersey which is 10miles x 6 miles with a max speed limit of 40 mph. I wondering if I'll get Diesel Particulate Filter problems.
There are loads of Berlingos and Partners here and they're all diesels. The general advice for vehicles doing low mileage is to go for petrol as you don't go fast enough for long enough to burn off the soot in a Diesel's DPF.
What are others experiences of DPFs in Berlingos particularly when the vehicle does low mileage.
Cheers, Andrew

The other issue with low mileage is that Diesels generally take longer to warm up (and reach full efficiency) compared to Petrol engines. So for short trips, petrol engines can actually be more efficient.
I used to have a 4.4ltr Petrol Range Rover, for short trips around town it wasn't much worse than the 2.2ltr Diesel Jaguar it replaced, but you really saw the difference on the motorway!
Get a slightly older one without a DPF then you don't have to worry.

It's more about your mileage in a day that counts towards efficiency. With a Diesel If you're doing a couple of miles, then leaving the car sat for hours it'll never warm up and drink like a fish as well as coking up inside.

With that mileage and your island i would go for a petrol - you are not doing enough miles for a diesel to pay for the extra maintenance costs due to dpf blocking.

Ive not seen any reports on this forum so you could say the answer is no. But if you cant get up to speed to regen the dpf thats when the problems will start.

I wouldn’t worry. We’ve got two hdi’s, a 2012 1.4 C3 EGS5 & a 2015 Berlingo 1.6 EGS6.
Both do low mileage. They only get to go fast occasionally. Citroen use Eolys fluid automatically dosed into the diesel to help dpf regeneration. It reduces the temperature needed to burn the carbon.
The Berlingo, which is Euro 6, also uses Adblue to reduce NOx emission. Strangely we find that the tailpipe of the Euro 5 C3 is much cleaner than the tailpipe of the Euro 6 Berlingo! In fact the C3 tailpipe looks almost new at 39000 miles & the Berlingo is sooty at 13000 miles!
