Hi all.... Ive just added a Witter towbar, and fitted a bypass for the wireing, its a generic one, (1000s) are sold, used and very good...Ive wired it properly, BUT I took the live fron the rear 12v socket....All trailer lights work, BUT I have a bleep on start up...This is because the 12v isn't perm live....(only when the ignition is on)....I need a perm 12 v feed what is the best way to get this....without untidying the wiring anywere ?...Thank you for any response

This is why I fitted the genuine wiring kit, the car specific plug in kits are a close second (but aren't much cheaper)
Those generic bypass kits are awful things, 1000's of them sold and fitted, and 1000's of them give grief within a couple of years.
There is a good chance your car left the factory with tow prep wiring present, behind the LH trim panel in the boot you'll probably find some spare connectors wrapped in foam. One of them will be for parking sensors the rest are for the towing module. You may need to fit a maxi fuse in the fuse box behind the engine ECU under the bonnet, but once you've done that you'll have a permanent live and ignition live at the rear.
It took me about 30 min to install the factory towing electrics, including activating them with diagbox.

Yes the towbar will need power direct from the battery, we run it under the car all the way to the front.

Hi, yes I did use the live from the 12v o/s socket, im going to address that Friday,i put my towbar on and wired it all up, everything works as should, BUT with a generic bypass,it bleeps every time you start up for a second or two...This I now know is because it isn't a perm live...However on the nearside, there is apparently a white white wire when used is a perm live...I need to put a fuse it the fusebox under the bonnet and hopefully this will be perm live !.

As I said above that'll be the tow prep.

It has nothing to do with the bypass, its the fact it isn't wired up to a perm live....I will keep the bypass on, and just feed it a perm live..that will solve the issue ....

The white wire that needs a fuse under the bonnet is put there ready to plug into the factory towing module, you can of course use it to power anything if you fit a fuse.
I won't Bother trying to help next time.

Yes, I know it has all the wireing, plugs, and everything needed for a "Plug n go", job...on the n/s, but being unable to afford the genuine article, I had to use what come with my towbar im afraid....I totally agree with you that would be best to use genuine wire set up...But at well over £100 ....and the kit/bypass I had come with my witter towbar....I will however use the white wire on the nearside, after activating it via the correct way,(40amp fuse ect)..and feed it to my live side to the bypass,(after disconnecting it from my 12 volt feed) which isn't perm, and that's the only reason my bypass gives 3 short bleeps on start up...I DO thank anyone for any help on any issue, you included...And yes the factory module if money wasn't an issue would have been spot on..It would have saved me soldiering a few wires !

The point is the wiring is there from the factory to power the factory towing kit, you can use the same wiring to power your generic bypass module! If you know it's there what are you asking?
