Motor working, vipers not wiping, Berlingo 2005@155k
#1
Hi. About a week ago, both window vipers stopped working simultaneously in the middle of a stride, at normal speed setting. I could hear the viper motor still going, without the vipers moving. Luckily, I wasn't far from home, and there was little traffic.

I parked the car, and checked the vipers. They could both be moved independently, and were not linked. I unscrewed the plastic cover, and found that the rightmost part of the linkage had come off the right viper's base.

It looked like the linkage arm could be pushed back onto its base. I did so, and it seemed to hold on well. I put everything back together, and tried to move one viper manually: The other one followed. I moved the other one, and the first one followed too. The I tried the vipers from the inside of the car: No reaction, only the sound of the viper engine working. I removed the linkage cover again, to see if the linkage had come off the right viper, but it hadn't, and I could still move both vipers by moving one.

What's the problem here, do you guys think?

The wiper spindles may be corroded and stuck.  Once the linkages jump off then  you may need a new wiper linkage assembly.

common fault

Hissing Sid had a post about it once , turns out he was a snake in the grass , his posts didn't adder up , he thought it was a slow worm screw in the motor   Big Grin

What a load of cobras Big Grin

It could be a stripped gear in the wiper motor gearbox.
So where does this bit go then ?

Brodfather: I think I get you. If there were enough resistance in the spindles, that might have caused the linkage to hop off.

Ffrenchie: Allright. If it's a stripped gear, then I suppose trying a different wiper speed might work? Will try that.

So, I tried the higher speed settings. I can hear the motor working faster, but there is no movement in the blades. There isn't much resistance when moving the blades manually either.

If it's a stripped gear nothing will work, it doesn't change gear like a gearbox. The motor will spin but nothing happens.
So where does this bit go then ?
